IGPX Episode 5: Come Together

Original Japanese title: Come Together

After the Team Velshtein race, Team Satomi takes a day to relax. Unfortunately, River's patience is wearing thin. He wants to be a forward in a race, and he is not getting that chance. He begins to target Takeshi. Can Takeshi and River get along, or will this be the last straw for River? Meanwhile, Miss Satomi is trying to figure out ways to cut back costs. Can an old friend lend a hand or two for this problem? This episode features the first appearance of Ichi, a retired engineer.

Report #1

An Instant Defeat! Team Velshtein's True Strength Is Revealed!!

The race is over with Team Satomi only finishing the 1st lap

Team Satomi had a taste of what victory feels like with their perfect victory during their last race with Team Black Egg. However, in their third race of the IG-1, which was against the champions for the last two years of the IGPX, Team Velshtein, the results were exactly the opposite of their previous race.

Both teams proceeded down the track flawlessly in the first lap. Then, as if out of a dream, in the first corner of the second lap, team Satomi's loss was completely decided. Just after entering the second lap, the three pilots of Team Satomi advanced towards Team Velshtein to attack them. Takeshi (Forward) was the pilot who rushed on Cunningham (Forward) from behind. But, immediately after he did that (or more like as he was attempting to do that), in the blink of an eye, Cunningham turned to face Takeshi. Takeshi's mech then took serious damage from Cunningham.

Amy (Midfield) and Liz (Defense) also were crushed. Without sending out the Running Skeleton, the team owner, Michiru Satomi, declared that they would retire the race. There was still the rest of the course remaining for Team Velshtein, but continuing the rest of the race was obviously a breeze. They were still able to accomplish a "winning run" of sorts, and it seemed like they even enjoyed it.

Given that the race was between these two teams (the rookie team against the champion team), the result seemed like it could have been decided early on, anyway. However, it was a race that was decided in just the first corner of the second lap. For all three pilots to retire in that first corner is absolutely unheard of. This is truly the difference between a team who has proven themselves as kings of the IG-1 and a team who has only just risen from the ranks of the IG-2. Team Satomi was ranked 2nd place in the IG-1 as of the end of their second race. Now, they have dropped down to 4th in the IG-1. If Team Satomi keeps fighting like this, it would not be strange to think that they could place 6th (last place) and drop to the IG-2 for the next season next year.
